Among the occupations listed on the Tier 2 list are IT, finance, teaching, healthcare, and engineering.

Types of UK Work visa

Tier 2 (General) Visa / Skilled Worker visa

Skilled foreign nationals who are Non-EU citizens applying for an employment visa with proof of offered employment in UK.

Tier 2 visa for professionals in special situations

  • Tier 2 Intra-Company Transfer Visa: For transfer workers employed in companies who are based in UK as well as other countries.
  • Tier 2 Minister of Religion Visa: For ministers of religions within a religious organisation and who has a registered UK Chapter.
  • Tier 2 Sportsperson Visa: For coaches and sportspersons who have excelled in achievements in Sports or has unique skill or knowledge that can improve the performance of British individuals participating in sports/fitness.

Tier 1 (General) Visa
You are a United Kingdom citizen or resident who is carrying an active visa, that is, you have permission to stay (remain) in the UK. If you want to switch to a different visa category, you can apply for your Tier 1 (General) visa if you are a current resident of the United Kingdom. This does not apply to some other immigration category.

Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) Visa
You must be recognized as an internationally recognized leader or emerging luminary in your field in the application for the and appropriate visa in this category. You cannot be an EU citizen.

Eligibility

To qualify for a Skilled Worker visa, you must:

  • work for a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office
  • Have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from your employer with information about the role you’ve been offered in the UK
  • Paid a minimum salary – Your job offer letter must state a salary of a minimum of £25,600, or the specific salary requirement.
  • You must have a confirmed job offer before you apply for your visa.

UK Work Visa Process

Step 1: Apply for a job

The UK publishes a list of jobs in the UK Shortage Occupation List (SOL). Your occupation must be mentioned in this list in order for you to apply. Once you have a job offer in hand, the employer will help file the documentation.

Step 2: English language proficiency proof

you must be able to demonstrate your English language proficiency through other documentation.

Step 3: Prepare application package

You can apply for a visa only 90 days before the day you start work in the UK. The application package must be submitted online and must contain all relevant documents such as:

  • Letter of sponsorship from your employer
  • Proof of funds to cover your living expenses
  • A valid passport
  • A visa invitation
